Sunburn and Sunburn Prevention
By: Remedy Zone
It’s happened to almost everybody. You go outside and the sun really doesn’t seem that fierce. Or sometimes it’s just that you forgot to put on your sunscreen and you fall asleep while lazing by the swimming pool. Sometimes you’re in a rush or you’re simply too lazy to put it on. A few hours later you look in the mirror and you see the sunburn.
Sunburn can result in skin inflammation due to overexposure to the rays of the sun. UV rays can be very harmful to the skin and they result in severe damage which may be deadly. Another harmful effect of UV rays is premature aging and skin cancer. In order to protect yourself from the effects of sunburn and protect yourself from potentially damaging effects you need to be on guard. One means of such protection is antioxidants which counteract the effects that the sun has on the skin. The best remedy is not to .get sunburned in the first place. You should use sunscreen that has a 15 SPF and limit your exposure to the sun in the hours between 10.00 am to 3.00 pm. Failure to do this will mean that you need some of the remedies prescribed below.
Anyone who has had their share of sunburn is aware of how painful it is. You need your relief and you need it quickly. What exactly can be done to stop the pain? What is the best remedy for your sunburn? A number of remedies are currently available and they range from those you buy in the store to the usual stock of home remedies. In order to determine what works in your case, you might need a little trial and error.
Aloe has always been a great and recommended treatment for sunburn. If you’re lucky enough and you have access to an aloe plant then you can easily get a leaf and apply the gel that you get from it. If you’re unlucky on the other hand, you can easily go to the store and get your aloe in a battle. Make sure that you look for the 100% aloe that has no added ingredients in it. Regular doses of Vitamin E will also help reduce the occurrence of skin inflammation. This Vitamin E can easily be found in wheat germ or vegetable oils which include sunflower oil, soybean oil, and nuts. If you use supplements make sure they are completely natural. Something else which reduces inflammation is aspirin. However aspirin will only work if it used within twenty-four hours of your exposure to the sun.
If you don’t feel like visiting the store in order to get relief, the best thing to do would be to get some home remedies. A cool but not cold bath can help relieve the pain that you’re feeling.1 cup of vinegar can be added to tepid bath water for pain relief, you can also try a ¼ cup baking soda and ¼ cup cornstarch combination. Make sure that no fragrances or bubbles are added to the water.
Vegetables may also be an effective sunburn remedy. Apples, sliced cucumbers and potatoes may be soothing when they are applied to the burn and they may reduce inflammation as well. By dabbing milk on the sunburn and using gauze for 20 minutes every 2 to 4 hours, you may succeed in solving the problem.
If you ever find yourself with any problems that arise from sunburn, you can easily use any of the remedies that are listed in this article. If you have anything else such as the chills, nausea, fever, faintness, fatigue, purple blotches or discoloration on your skin, excessive blistering, or intense itching, then you had best contact a doctor instead.
